In1887,duringapilgrimagetoRome,ThérèseMartin—nowknownaroundtheworldasSt.ThérèseofLisieux—visitedthechapelof“MaterAdmirabilis,”tuckedinsideaconventatoptheiconicstaircase.
There,sheprayedonherkneesbeforeapaintingoftheVirginMary,beseechingGodforthegracetoentertheCarmeliteconventattheageof15,arequestthatshealsoboldlymadeduringanaudiencewithPopeLeoXIIIattheVatican.
