TheArchdioceseofChicagohasremovedapriestfromministryfollowingallegationsthathesexuallyabusedaminorseveraldecadesago.
Intwoletters—onetoparishionersofSts.JosephandFrancisXavierParishinWilmette,Illinois,andonetothoseatSt.FrancisBorgiainChicago—archbishopCardinalBlaseCupichsaidthearchdiocesehadreceivedallegationsofsexabuseagainstMonsignorDanielMayall.
ThepriesthadservedseveralrolesatSt.Josephandthenatthecombinedparishesfrom2016to2021.HeledSt.FrancisBorgiafrom1993to2002.
TheallegedabuseoccurredatSt.FrancisBorgia“approximately30yearsago,”Cupichsaidinhislettertoparishioners.
“Inkeepingwithourchildprotectionpolicies,IhavedirectedMonsignorMayalltoremainoutofministryandrefrainfromallparishandschoolactivities,”theprelatesaid.
Mayall“strenuouslydeniesthisallegation,”Cupichsaid,buthehas“agreedtocooperatewiththisdirection.”
